Vaseline: the cure for all things beauty

hello everyone!

If I have one beauty tip that everyone should know about, it’s Vaseline. Vaseline is the answer to most of my beauty problems, and I promise you’ll be amazed by what it can do. However, I must warn you of this first:

I have recently (we’re talking like today) learned that the application of Vaseline to one’s lips can be extremely dangerous because it’s an ingredient in gasoline. If you have any questions about this, read this article:
Dr.Oz on the dangers of Vaseline

Now, since it’s not safe to ingest, that basically cuts out my main use: application to the lips as a much cheaper and more moisturizing alternative to chapstick. I’ve been using Vaseline for as long as I can remember, so it looks like I’ll need to find some non-petroleum jelly to replace my favorite form of lip conditioning.

Okay! Back on track :) Here are some of my fabulous uses for Vaseline.

1. eye makeup remover
I’ve used this many times over when I have caked on eyeshadow, eyelash glue clumped to my lashes, or a very stubborn lipstick or stain (which I will wipe off thoroughly after reading the article by Dr. Oz). Vaseline removes stubborn makeup almost immediately. Word of caution, though: make sure you’re careful when removing it. Don’t tug too hard on the delicate skin of your eyelids. It can cause wrinkles and sore skin. Glop it on and remove it gently with a washcloth or toilet paper. It works perfectly.

2. moisturizer
My skin is always cracked, red, and itchy in the cold winters of Minnesota and I’ve always dealt with it or put runny lotion on during the day until I started using Vaseline! Once again, glop this stuff on your hands or feet and then cover your them with surgical gloves or socks while you sleep. When you wake up, they should be completely moisturized and the Vaseline should have soaked in. If it hasn’t, simply use an exfoliating face wash or a dish soap to remove the extra. I usually don’t have a huge problem with this. You can also use it on your face when your skin gets scaly. I even mix it in with my foundation on excessively cold and dry winter days. It works like a charm and my skin is glowing again by the end of the day. I haven’t had a problem with clogged pores or sudden acne breakouts and I’ve heard from multiple sources that it’s noncomedogenic. So we’re all good!

3. lubricant
Alright, please read this before you use Vaseline as a “traditional” lubricant. I’ve bolded, italicized, and underlined this statement because I don’t want anyone getting this goop inside their vagina. Also, besides the obvious discomfort of having that stuck up there, Vaseline will weaken latex. That should be explanatory enough.
I use Vaseline as a lubricant when I’m trying to get my stubborn earrings back in my ears or when I need to free a ring from my finger. Plus, it’s not impossible to take off and most of the time, it’ll absorb right into your skin.

4. eyeshadow primer
You may be confused as to why I have this on the list almost immediately below “makeup remover”. I wouldn’t use Vaseline as an everyday primer because it can crease, but if you’re in a pinch, it’s a great substitute. ONLY use a thin layer or your eyeshadow will be clumpy and smudgy and not the most beautiful thing around. I would highly recommend an actual primer, but, like I said, it works in a pinch.

5. perfume strengthener
I haven’t done this yet, but many people swear by putting little dots of Vaseline on their chest or necks to strengthen the scent of their perfume and make it last all day long.

6. unruly eyebrow correcter
I don’t know about all of you, but my eyebrows like to stick in every-which-way just to say hi to various other parts of my face. The solution to this is cheap and moisturizing… expensive eyebrow cream!
No, I’m kidding. It’s Vaseline.

7. protection of new tattoos
Vaseline is FANTASTIC for tattoos. I used it constantly when I had mine done and I never had any painful drying or rubbing. It was completely protected.

 8. hair dye stain preventer
I almost forgot this one and I use it all the time, since I dye my hair myself! My scalp stains like crazy and I usually procrastinate on root touch-ups until the day before an important event. To prevent the annoying stains on ears and my forehead, I apply a thin layer of vaseline close to my hairline. Be careful with this, though. If it gets too close to your hairline, the hair dye won’t stain your hair and you’ll have lovely little dye-less spots. Super cute.
